Radical Reference Montreal Collective: membership guidelines
The Montreal chapter of Radical Reference focuses its services on the causes of social justice and equality in our community. The group is made up of volunteers and operates in a non-hierarchical, consensus-based manner. We stand against all forms of oppression including racism, classism, colonialism, homophobia/transphobia, gender oppression, patriarchy and ableism.
Anyone is welcome to join , although training in information retrieval and documentation skills is an asset. There is currently no induction or training process. Functional roles (e.g., managing the e-mail account or updating the website) are created as needed.
Members participate by initiating and carrying out the collective’s projects, such as answering questions received through our website, providing information services at demonstrations, developing information guides, contacting community groups, providing information skills training, documenting radical literature collections and activist groups, etc.
Members are expected to attend at least two in-person meetings before organizing events under the name of Radical Reference Montreal. Access to additional group documents can also be given at this time.
Events or projects must fall under our mandate. Any veto of a group decision must likewise related back to our mandate.
The collective’s mandate is posted at http://radrefmtl.wordpress.com/about/
